Throwback Trends | Denim on Denim

Denim on Denim was huge in the 90s, and now it’s back with a modern twist. Many people completely avoid this combination because being clad in denim from top to bottom can be somewhat over bearing, but as long as there is some thought put into it, pulling off this throwback trend can look more updated.

When wearing the same shades of denim, ensure that the denim is not too overbearing by dressing to flatter your figure and working with a simple colour palette. I’m wearing my denim A-line skirt with a fitted denim jacket, completing the look with a white Mickey T-shirt and a blue/white flannel tied around my waist for a 90s feel.

Extra tip: Another common way of modernising the all-denim look is to wear different shades of denim, for example a light wash chambray top with black denim jeans.

Have fun!

Style Journal | Old School Vibes

For a long time, I’ve wanted to own a matching set of sorts, so in a spur of the moment, I decided to make my own! On a trip to Spotlight with my mum, I was browsing through different kinds of fabrics and was drawn this print for for its retro vibe and the colour. My wardrobe is very lacking in the warm-colours-department, so when I saw the material I thought, hey, why not?

With quite a lot of help from my mum, I created a pattern for the skirt, a pattern for the crop top using my existing cropped shirts as a template. This was my first time sewing my own clothes so I'm very happy with how it turned out!

For anyone who wants to start making their own clothes, if the material is not stretchy (which this wasn't) it's really important to get the measurements right, so don't rush making the pattern. It's the first and probably most important step!
The cropped shirt has a classic silhouette fitting down to the waist just before the A-line skirt begins, emphasising the feminine figure. The material is quite stiff and structured (I think it's called cotton twill), so that the skirt maintains its shape, and makes the overall outfit appear more sophisticated.

There’s something so simple yet timeless about matching sets. The outfit is basically decided for you, but it still looks carefully considered. Better yet, you can even wear them as separates and pair them with different tops or bottom - Multi-functional pieces are the best!

What do you like about matching sets? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts :)

Bye, have fun!
