Style Journal | Little Red

As you can probably tell just from the title, this outfit features the colour red. The focal point of my look is the red coat, which was given to me by a friend when she was clearing out her wardrobe! It's pretty loose which kind of makes it feel like a cape. The sleeves are a bit short, and the buttons are only at the top but it still shields me from the wind and the hood is massive. This makes it a great transitional piece, either from summer to autumn, or into spring.

Continuing on with the red colour scheme, my patterned cropped tank made a comeback, sans skirt. The rest of my outfit is black and white, as to not take attention away from the vibrant red up top. To go with my cropped tank, I wore my high waisted black jeans which I love because of the buttons. Of course to finish I wore my go-to converse.

Style Journal | Old School Vibes

For a long time, I’ve wanted to own a matching set of sorts, so in a spur of the moment, I decided to make my own! On a trip to Spotlight with my mum, I was browsing through different kinds of fabrics and was drawn this print for for its retro vibe and the colour. My wardrobe is very lacking in the warm-colours-department, so when I saw the material I thought, hey, why not?

With quite a lot of help from my mum, I created a pattern for the skirt, a pattern for the crop top using my existing cropped shirts as a template. This was my first time sewing my own clothes so I'm very happy with how it turned out!

For anyone who wants to start making their own clothes, if the material is not stretchy (which this wasn't) it's really important to get the measurements right, so don't rush making the pattern. It's the first and probably most important step!
The cropped shirt has a classic silhouette fitting down to the waist just before the A-line skirt begins, emphasising the feminine figure. The material is quite stiff and structured (I think it's called cotton twill), so that the skirt maintains its shape, and makes the overall outfit appear more sophisticated.

There’s something so simple yet timeless about matching sets. The outfit is basically decided for you, but it still looks carefully considered. Better yet, you can even wear them as separates and pair them with different tops or bottom - Multi-functional pieces are the best!

What do you like about matching sets? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts :)

Bye, have fun!
